Things to Do in Phu Quoc: Our Local Travel Guide
A simple to-do list for your Phu Quoc trip, from locals in Duong Dong. Boat trips, diving, jungle tours, scooters, SIM cards and where to eat.

Planning a trip to Phu Quoc? We cook for travellers in Duong Dong every day, and the same questions come up at the table: where do I rent a scooter, which SIM card works, what should I do on the water? So we put the answers in one place, our free Phu Quoc Guide. Here is how to use it as your to-do list.
Before you land
Sort out the basics first so you can enjoy the island without surprises:
- Check the live weather for Duong Dong and An Thoi before you plan a boat day
- Set up a SIM or eSIM. Viettel and Vinaphone have the strongest coverage across the island, and you can pick one up at the airport or have it delivered to your hotel
- Find an ATM and a place to exchange money in our cash and ATM guide
Getting around
Phu Quoc is bigger than it looks, so decide how you will move before you go exploring:
- Moto rental: Duong Dong and Long Beach have the widest selection. Choose a partner who includes helmets, does not keep your passport, and can deliver to your hotel
- Taxi and Grab: Grab works for cars, while taxis and private drivers cover late hours and remote beaches
- Ferry to the mainland: fast ferries run to Ha Tien and Rach Gia, with bus links onward to Ho Chi Minh City. Book early and check the luggage limits
On the water and in the jungle
This is the part of the list most visitors come for:
- Island hopping boat trip: an all-day trip with food, fishing and snorkeling included
- Scuba diving: PADI-certified schools for first-timers and experienced divers, with try-dives, open water courses and guided reef dives
- Sailing: sailing sessions with training and guided time on the sea
- Jungle tours: eco-friendly tours off the beaten track, through forests, national parks, hidden coves and local villages
Boat trips, diving, pepper farms, fish sauce factories and the coconut prison museum top the list of must-do day trips. — From our Phu Quoc Guide FAQ
